What Is Discount?

A discount is the amount subtracted from an item's original price, typically expressed as a percentage of that price. To find the final price, multiply the original price by (1 − the discount rate as a decimal).

Example

A $80 jacket with a 25% discount costs $80 × (1 − 0.25) = $80 × 0.75 = $60, a savings of $20.
