What Is Hypotenuse?

The hypotenuse is the side of a right triangle that sits across from the 90° angle. It's always the longest of the triangle's three sides, and it's the side the Pythagorean theorem solves for when you know the other two.

Example

In a right triangle with legs 6 and 8, the hypotenuse is 10.
