What Is Mixed Number?
A mixed number combines a whole number and a proper fraction (a fraction less than 1) into a single value, like 2¾. It represents the same value as an improper fraction (one where the numerator is larger than the denominator) — 2¾ and 11/4 mean exactly the same amount, just written differently.
Example
The improper fraction 11/4 converts to the mixed number 2¾, since 11 ÷ 4 = 2 remainder 3, giving a whole number of 2 and a remaining fraction of 3/4.
