What Is Slope-Intercept Form?
Slope-intercept form writes a straight line's equation as y = mx + b, where m is the line's slope and b is the y-coordinate where it crosses the y-axis (where x = 0). It's the most common way to write a linear equation because both key features of the line, its steepness and its starting point, are visible directly in the equation.
Example
y = 2x + 3 has a slope of 2 and crosses the y-axis at (0, 3). At x = 0, y = 2(0) + 3 = 3, confirming the y-intercept.
